This event supercedes the GSLS Induction Day. The two hour session for new starters will run in small groups, so students can sign up to one of six possible times over two dates at the Small Exams Hall on the New Museums Site:
- 24 October at 0900, 1130 or 1415
- 31 October at 0900, 1130 or 1415
Each student only needs to attend one of these sessions.
Who Should Attend?
All new postgraduate students in the GSLS who start in October 2014 must attend. Students who have attended this event or the GSLS Induction Event in previous years do not have to attend. This may be the case for some students who have completed a Masters year at Cambridge or equivalent before their current degree programme.
Students will be able to sign up themselves through the GSLS booking system link here.
After an introduction and networking, the event will run sessions to interactively cover the topics of:
- The University
- Student perspective
- Admin progress through the PhD
- Plagiarism and falsification
- Good research practice
- Skills training
- Making the most of your time in Cambridge, and avoiding pitfalls
Although not essential, students are encouraged to bring a laptop, tablet, or smart-phone to help with the interactive session.
